...Just been watching a lunar eclipse in the back yard! So awesome!

Things that go on in my life...

Ok the computer is now fixed so I can write again! Yeah!!
Well I’m still on holiday. I go to Mum’s dance classes 4 times a week in the holiday, twice for ballet and twice for general exercise classes. One of my teachers from primary school she goes to Mum’s exercise class on Mondays!!! I haven’t seen her for 12 years! She left when I was in yr 4 and then I met her again last week! She still remembers me and we kept talking about school and stuff and remembering things about primary school.

Have almost finished my biology lab report that I was supposed to write, due first day back! Tutoring is going well, I’m enjoying it soo much! Preparing for lessons, finding worksheets and notes is so fun!! Great! :) I hope I will get more students over time!
I was reading Linda’s SHC newsletter, very interesting and I found a job supervising NCEA exams in November! I really want to do it, haven’t been able to get hold of the organizer yet though but will surely try and call again tomorrow. The organizer is one of the teachers that used to teach RE at SHC! I wonder if she’ll remember me…I really want that job!

It’s so interesting working! So far I have had jobs babysitting, translating and currently am tutoring! So much fun, I really enjoy what I do! Doesn’t even feel like jobs, I just do it and it brings me pleasure~!

How Leaf We Are

How leaf we are;
At first, all furled in separateness:
Peeping out with little vanities and hopes, also vanity:
Perhaps the last vanity, holding us to that green world
Our life shall be; believing ourselves
So individual, we all reach, being identical.
Shall the prodigal gardener weep?

How leaf we are:
At last, all seared in brittleness
Curled up with tiny fears and hurts, also fears;
Perhaps the last fear, tethering us to that dry twig
Our life become; then knowing what we are
Enumerable, we fall, expendable, all.
The gardener is blind. He will not sweep.

How leaf we are
Like waves we do become; first urged, then merged.
That gardener is a fisherman;
That fisherman's asleep.

-Ronald Duncan

I love this peom so much! It's so sad but I love it! We read it in yr13 english. I was looking through my english notes, preparing for my teaching and I found this poem! I was so happy, I didn't think we got a copy of it but we did!
I love the use of the metaphor of us being a leaf. It's so tragic but also very inspiring. I really inspired me. I hope that I will be able to make a contribution to the world, do something really worthwhile during my life time. I don't want to be a 'leaf'.

(: ...feeling happy... :)

Happiness...
Today was great! In the morning I went shopping and bought things for my memories scrapbook that I'm going to make in the holidays as a holiday project. This afternoon I had my first english tutoring session with Kelly on english and it was great! I really missed explainig things to people, helping... I enjoyed it sooo much, feeling really happy now!:) She like me has Mrs Bartlett so they are studying almost the same material as we're studying! (I had Mrs Bartlett for 3 years!) Heheheheh! Today we covered war poetry, for short text analysis. I advized her to study 'Suicide in the trenches' by Seigfred Sassoon and 'Futility' by Wilfred Owen. Mrs Bartlett gives lot of analysis of these poems. Heheheh all the memories, those were the ones I studied :)
My good old college English Folder
The joys of yr12 english! I told Kelly to say "hi" to Mrs Bartlett for me and tell her that I really miss college english and Mrs Bartlett's many pages of english notes! (we get like one page a day of notes for english at uni:( In Mrs Bartletts class we got about 10 pages a day!!! :)) I will meet Kelly every Friday and we will continue going over everything! I even gave her homework! She has to write an essay on language techniques used in two poems and how they contribute to the success of the poems :)

Feeling soo happy!!! I definitely would like to teach english!... school is english is more fun than uni english where we hardly get any notes...it's still nice though... oh well, I'll study some english papers at uni (like now) and then I can teach it along with science, at school!! :) :) :) hehehehahahahahehehhe!!

Memories are made of this...

After reading my friend's blog entry about memories I was inspired to write about some memories of my own... after all, they last forever! :)

Sacred Heart College friendships, yr10, 2002.
...Natasha, me, Liz, Rina- my friend from Japan, and Antoinette in a maths classroom during lunchtime. Can't remember what classroom it was exactly...

My 16th birthday, yr11 2003. Camping at Kaitoki forest park! Me, Liz, Jasmine, Linda, Christina, Selene, Mila and Wendy! I can still rememberhow much fun we had!
The Big Rock.... and us!! :)

My 17th birthday, 2004. Camping once again, but this time it was in our own back yard!

Veronica, Jasmine, me and Selene...

Camping...
My 18th birthday, 2005! Superheroes style!!
So much crazy fun that was!!!

Selene, Veronica, me, Mr Tiger and Anita...

Kathy, Selene and me at sports day, 2005! Go Barbier, Siena...

The 7th form ball was a great highlight of the year!! 7th form, 2005!!
...a night to remember...Just me and my friends...
...All thoselong hours spent in the library with NCEA level 3... the library was our home that year... well, practically anyway!
My final week at Sacred Heart College was a memorable one indeed... First we had G-day when everyone dressed up as something begining with'G'... Liz the gold digger, me the ghost...
Jazz and Anita, the gemini twins!
Inside out day was even more hillarious! My 'bones' were lying all over the school by the end of the day!

SHC Senior Prizegiving 2005 was full of mixed up feelings...
...happiness, sadness...

My 19th birthday was one that I will never forget! 2006
Me, Selene, Jazzy, Kathy and Anita
Wendy, Anita, Liz, Jazzy and me Missing friends....
Jazzy and me...
Me and all my friends at my 19th birthday. Friends Forever! :)

...But unfortunately Jasmine couldn't make it to our reunion at the begining of 2007 so we had a reunion of our own when she came to visit in April 2007! What a great time we had catching up almost 2 years of being appart! Even Veronica managed to join us for a little while when we went to Petone beach.
The great friends reunion at the begining of 2007 after one year of uni... Veronica is at Victoria University studying chemistry and deaf studies, Liz, after finishing a course at WelTech on tourism is now working, Sonia is studying nursing at Massey University, Anita is studying medicine at Otago University and I'm studying biology and english at Victoria University. Jasmine, Selene and Wendy couldn't make it. Selene is in England, Jasmine in Canterbury studying maths and Wendy doing plumming...as far as I know anyway!
So this is a glimpse of some of my precious memories. Of course there are many more, and these are just some of them that I thought I'd share wish you! :)

Holidays have come once again...

Well, another half a trimester has gone by! I cannot believe how fast! The next two weeks I have midtrimester break!

This week has been ok. Had a marine biology test on Wednesday, so was late coming to my biology lab where we measured heart rate and breathing lung capacity, and pressure etc. In other words we had a lab that focused on aspects of physiology. I had to put a pack of ice cold stuff on my face and measure my heart rate! Brrr, you may think, but it was so hot in the lab that I didn't really mind ice on my face. Nice and refreshing! I came into my lab class after my marine bio test and couldn't stop thinking about marine stuff. I had fish swimming in my head, in other words! Could hardly concentrate!

Today was my final day of lectures, I only had 2, went into uni feeling like a zombie! Really couldn't concentrate properly. Was so happy when my lectures were over! Went home and relaxed... felt a bit weird not studying though! I have 3 assignments to do over the holidays but that's ok, they shouldn't be too hard, I hope... one english essay, one bio lab report and a genetics assignment...will start next week!

I decided to start to do some tutoring in science and english, because I love it and I haven't done any of it since I finished school, so I designed some posters and hung them around places (I got some of my friends to hang them up at schools like Hutt High, Chilton and Linda hung one up at SHC). I love explaining things to people! :) I have my first tutoring session on Friday with a yr12 from SHC on english... exciting!! :)

Yesss!! Now that I've got more free time I can go on the internet lots! Yeaa!! ...well, not TOO much, I do still have assignments... ")

I'm Reading...

I'm travelling to new worlds,
I'm moving back and forward in time,
I'm face to face with heroes and adventurers,
I'm gathering facts,
I'm tracking down treasure,
I'm living out my dreams,
I'm feeling every emotion,
I'm in the middle of a battle,
I'm exploring outer space,
I'm researching the Earth,
I'm solving ancient mysteries,
I'm breaking codes,
I'm imagining cities I may never go to,
I'm experiencing food and drink I may never taste,
I'm discovering exotic animals,
I'm picturing new colours,
I'm picking up new skills and I'm uncovering amazing possibilities.
I'm Reading.

...end of the week...

The end of another week. One more week until midsemester break!! Yea!! ...although I'll still have assignments to do, but hey! A holiday is great!

Nothing much has been happening this week. On Wednesday we got our results back for the english test. Very depressing. Sigh. At least for english they said that if you do better in the final exam than during the term, then they will discard the marks recieved during the term and take only the exam mark. That's comforting to know. The test was terrible... So different to what english was like at school where we just had to write essays on novel themes, characters... All the really interesting english papers are offered in 2nd-3rd years, but in 1st year you have to take the random english papers which include the study of all genres... Having mixed feelings about english at the moment. I think it's an aftermath after that horrid test...
We got our genetics marks back also. Not as disappointing as english but would have liked to have done better... sigh. But I still think genetics is a great subject!!!

Haven't been feeling well, Linda caught the flu and then I got it off her. Sniff Sniff. Today after university I mistakenly got on the wrong train and went all the way to Paraparamu! Grr! Well not all the way, luckily it wasn't an express train without stops so I got off at the first station and caught another train back to Wellington and then to Waterloo. How innoying! That is the second time that's happened to me (last year I accidently caught the train to Paraparamu as well, I had the flu that time too. Only then it was 6pm and the train was an express so I went all the way to Paraparamu!).

...One more test to go next week before the holidays. Going to study Marine bio all weekend and will try not to get distracted...

So much going on...

Well, this week sure was interesting! On Monday I had my English test. It turns out that I didn’t even need to know most of the stuff that I studied (i.e. authors of poems, passages). I’d forgotten what English tests are like! It’s all about analysis and interpretation, and that’s quite hard to study. The worst part is that you don’t really know how well you did, because the questions are so open ended. For example “here is a passage from the play ‘Twelfth Night’. Discuss the theme of love and identity based on this passage.” And then you’re expected to write on topic. But how much do you write? How detailed is it supposed to be? You write as much as you think is necessary, but is it enough? This you will never know until you get your results back. Our poem analysis was similar.

We also got a poem and had to analyze it. In an example test that we got given from last year you had to give the name of the author who wrote the poem (we have a course book with poems in it and the lecturer chooses a poem from there to use in the test) so I tried to memorize the poem authors from our course book. But we didn’t have to give any names in the test! Grr! Well, English is really all about common sense and opinions and understanding what you are reading so you don’t really need to memorize anything apart from quotes. I’d forgotten that part, since I haven’t done English as a subject since the end of 7th form (2005)! And all my science subjects require learning and memorizing.

I also had a genetics test on Friday morning at 9am. So I spent all week studying genetics!! So great, I enjoy my genetics study so much!! Finally I found my area of biology! (first I thought it was cell bio but then no that wasn’t it) Heh heh! Medellian genetics and genetics in general is awesome with punnet squares and dihybrid/monohybrid crosses and independent assortment and ratios and… well I won’t bore you with all the details but the things we learn are really fascinating!! The biology lab that we had this week was quite good, we studied blood samples. And we didn’t even have to write up a lab report or anything like that!

In the weekend I found a job!! Well actually two jobs. But I didn’t really find them, they found me instead! My mum has a Russian friend who likes to write and illustrate books. She writes stories in Russian and then gets them translated into English. Mum told her that I translate things often (I do it a lot for Mum and her Ballet School paperwork) and she asked me to translate one of her stories! It’s a children’s picture book for tourists about Driving Creek Railway, a place in Coramandel (top of the north island of NZ). So far I’m half way through!

The other job that I got was a babysitting! Mum’s friend has a friend who has 3 boys aged about 5, 9 and 13. They recently came to NZ from Germany, and often the parents need someone to stay with the boys. I have always wanted to baby-sit (all the Baby-sitters Club books (Ann. M. Martin) that I’ve read!) and my Mum’s friend knew that so she told her friend about me. She first asked me to sit for her boys in the April holidays, but unfortunately I had classes at the time, but said that if there was any other time they needed a sitter I would be very glad be one! So then on Thursday night I get a call from the mother of the boys saying she needs a sitter for Saturday night! I was so excited! So I went to my job and it was great! I had bought along ‘Harry Potter and the philosopher’s Stone’ video just in case. And it turned out that all the boys like Harry Potter so we ended up watching the movie until their parents got home! We had a great time and I promised the boys that next time I come to babysit I will bring the 2nd and 3rd and 4th Harry Potter movie! The parents said that I can be their regular sitter from now on whenever they go out! Yeaaa!!!!! After all these years that I’ve wanted to baby-sit!

My sister’s dream had also come true. My parents finally let Linda get a dog!! It has probably been her life-long dream! And now it has come true! I’m so happy for her!!! We will be looking for a dog now… (!!) A Bitzon-feez (small podle-like dog, not sure how to properly spell it)!!

On Friday, apart from doing my genetics test, me and my family went to our friends house because it was our family friend’s birthday. We have known this family since the year we first came to NZ, they were one of the first families we met. And we have been friends since. They have 3 boys, and the oldest is Roma who’s my age and he has a brother Danya who’s Linda’s age and another brother who’s 7. It was their Dad’s birthday and me and Mum baked him a cake! Reminds me of a type of cake that comes in Barbie doll sets! I was responsible for the coloured icing! Heh! Heh!
We just found out that a friend of our family passed away. So sad, he was my friend’s granddad, and I knew him. Feeling a bit sad right now, I can’t even go to his funeral because it’s tomorrow morning and I have classes. Sigh. He was always so nice, and he loved to play the piano and listen to me play too. My friend Jane must be feeling terribly sad right now. Sigh. But the world keeps spinning and life goes on. And tomorrow is the start of a brand new week…
