Ode to the calculator

This calculator I've had for the past 9 years since the begining of yr 7 when we first needed a scientific calculator. Dad bought it home from work for me, so it is probably even older than 9 years. Anyway the interesting thing about this calculator is that it worked backwards, kind of, and people got innoyed with it. For example, if you wanted to get the square root of something, you had to type the number first and then square root it... anyway it's hard to explain. But I knew how to use it and liked it. It even had its original batteries that have never been changed! When Linda started college I lent her the calculator. Sigh. And now it's officially broken :( Anyway this photo will be here now in its memory.
This is a song I wrote for yr 9 music in 2001 and I think it will be appropriate here:
Everything changes
Time goes by
the birds they fly away,
The leaves turn brown
it's the sign of autumn,
Time passes by
it can never stand still.
Everything changes
it just changes,
Nothing lasts forever
nothing ever stands still.
A person's life
flows as a river,
It flows on
and on and on,
We find there's always
always something changes.
Our life moves on
along its road.
Everything changes,
it just changes.
Nothing lasts forever,
nothing ever stands still.

Decisions

Finally decided that I'm definately taking english next term and next year too! I'm so excited!!!
I got the prospectus for the english papers offers and have been looking at it breifly. The english papers look so exciting! Like there's a paper where you study Jane Austen novels!!!! Pride and prejudice....Sense and sensibility....!!! All the good memories of high school english!!!! There are so many interesting english papers, it will be hard to choose! At the moment I'm not sure whether I'll take 100 level or 200 level english paper next term, I'm going to find out if I can take 200 level straight away, that would be good. I'm excited about next semester because my timetable will be very interesting, unlike this term which is really monotonous. It's all bio at the cellular level and chem which is at the molecular level... But next term will be so variant! Marine bio, genetics, bio lab and english!!!

Two more weeks to go for me until study leave! I'm looking forwards to it, it will be so peaceful because there won't be any lab reports to write each week. I found that lab reports can be really innoying, like this term I had to write two lab reports each week and it takes up a lot of my time, so I can't do much else. Like, my weekends are generally devoted to writing lab reports... this weekend I have to write 2 chem reports and 1 bio one. So now I realised that taking 2 lab courses is not a very good idea. But anyway, this term is almost over anyway (I have almost a month and a half of no classes, including study leave!! Yeah!!!) and I won't take more than one lab course per term. So that should be good. So I only have 2 more weeks to go to survive with my lab reports. Good. Very good. Can't wait till study leave!!

last week...

Hi everyone!

An update on last week which was so stressful thanks to a certain subject that I didn't even get to post...

First of all, I can't believe exams are so soon! We got our exam timetable last week, and I'm very relieved at the way my exams have worked out. I finish on the 31st May and then my first exam is on the 8th June and then my second one is on the 19th of June. So very good gaps! And I don't have two exams on the same day! What a relief! I remember last year I had two on one day and it was not fun at all!

This week has been so stressful with chemistry lab reports, I'm getting so tired of chemistry! Seriously thinking about taking english next trimester, I'm really sick of stressing out about chemistry. It just takes up so much of my time when I could be doing other things like studying bio!! Yesterday career expo came to our uni so I got some info about teaching and apparently there is a lack of english teachers in NZ, and they give out scholarships if you want to teach english!!! I think it will be fun to teach english...

On the other hand, biology is going well, and I really don't mind writing lab reports each week! It's really fun, especially if I think about what chemistry lab report writing is like, makes bio lab reports seem even better! I was looking at the english papers available and there's this really interesting one that I could take next term about childrens literature...L.C Lewis and things like that. I'm still thinking about it... and it fits in well with my timetable too. It's just that these weeks have been so hectic because of chemistry and it makes uni stop being fun, because I worry so much about chem... On Wednesday we had the chem lab and the experiment I was doing was so long that we had to come back to finish it, and the only time we were allowed to come back was on Thursday at 11am, which is when I have my bio lectures!!! So I had to miss my bio lectures because of chem! Grrrr!!!!
Sigh.I can't believe this trimester is almost over! This year is going so fast, faster than last year even!

...and now it's almost June...

Another week has gone...

Wow! Another week has just gone by! So quickly! In a way it's kind of scary because it means that exams are coming up!
This week has been nothing much of significance, just day to day uni life with lectures, labs and lab reports. And of course study.
Now that exams are just around the corner, here is a poem for you:

Success

Success is failure
turned inside out,
The silver tint
to the clouds of doubt,
And you can never tell
how close you are,
It may be near
When it seems so far,
So stick to the fight
when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem at worst
that you must not quit!!
