my week...

Heheheh! First week back to classes has gone by! Amazing! Has been a pretty interesting week actually. In the lab on Wednesday we mated Drosophila flies!!! Seriously, I remember before I started uni talking to people who were already at uni taking genetics courses and all they ever talked about is how they get to mate fruit flies! And now we actually got to do it ourselves!! On Wednesday we selected our males and females and now we wait for them to mate and then in the following weeks we get to observe their next generations and then the next generatons! (along with writing a lab report of our findings...)

So I guess the highlight of the week has been Wednesday. The other days as usual I had my classes. In marine biology we watched a really awesome video about marine life.

At the moment I'm working on my genetics assignment, due next Monday.... as you can see I got a bit sidetracked... :0

By the way we are now officially looking for a dog (Linda's dream come true).... Took her 7 years (quoting Linda) to convince mum and dad and now finally her dream had come true. A bichon frize is like a mini poodle type dog that Linda wants. At first we were going to get a shetlhand sheepdog but they are very hard to find in NZ so a bichon frize is the next choice... I wonder if she'll (we're looking for a girl) become friends with Misty... hopefully! The bichon frize we're looking for -Linda's dream come true!

We finally got our exam timetable and to my great relief my exams are quite spread out! I was nervous that I might have clashes with my exams because I take such an unusual range of papers, but luckily it all worked out fine. I even get 2 weeks of study leave before any of my exams start!! So great! And my last exam is on the 1st of November, and then the holidays begin!

By the way, I did not get the job supervising exams at SHC after all. So sad, apparently they don't take past SHC students as supervisors! Was a bit disappointed at first, I wanted that job, and apparently other schools don't have that rule. Grrr! ...You'd think they took past pupils because they know them well and can trust them. But no.
... I might still be able to get another job supervising exams at Taita college where my friend Sonia's dad works, Sonia supervised exams there last year. This year we might do it together. Still waiting for a reply from her dad.

... really should get back to my assignment though...

why don't they let you go back to supervise?! hmm.. or maybe they want "older" teachers to supervise? but surely, past pupils shud be let to supervise huh..

The school doesn't choose the supervisors,(I think the school would have let me) there is an outside comittee that does that, and they made up the rule that past students aren't allowed to supervise because they might still have friends at school who they might 'help'. I personally thought it would be the total opposite, I mean if I was choosing employees I would rather employ people who I know well and can trust, rather than an outsider... but I guess that's not no how their reasoning goes... :( oh well
