Perspective
On Wednesday I supervised the NCEA level 1 science exam at Taita College.
I was extremily surprised at the amount of students that didn't turn up! It was even worse than level 1 maths-this time 28 students didn't turn up! I still can't imagine how people can have the guts to not turn up to an exam! After the first 45 minutes more than half the students left the room! Although they were sitting only 3 science papers... but still...
Anyway, by the end of the exam there was one student left in the room. I was a bit sad afterwards because this was the last exam that I was scheduled to supervise this year. Unless someone calls to say they can't make it and then I will get to supervise more... but that hasn't happened yet. At the end of the exam I got to take the exam papers home and so I did them for fun-hehe I could do them!
It is actually quite interesting looking at exams from a different perspective. Like when you are a student, you just go into an exam room and then spend the next 3 hours blocked off from the whole world absorbed in doing the exam. You don't notice what everyone else is up to or anything else at all. But when you are an examiner you are looking at everything from a dfferent perspective. You observe students who are absorbed in their work, some just sitting there looking around the room, while others don't even open their exam paper! It really puts things into perspective.
I told my 'boss' that I definitely enjoyed supervising exams. Next year I will get to do more exam supervision and will hopefully get more days.
As I was walking home I did some perspective reflections. It's interesting how at first we spend 13 years learning at school and I loved most of those years. I then started University and love every moment of it. And now this year I have had my first few experiences working; this year I have done translating, babysitting, tutoring and supervising exams- and I love it all!!
I think it's extremily important to be passionate about the things that you do, putting your heart into what you do and do it to the max! Its your life; reach for the stars! :)
